Concussion treatment
If you got a concussion you should immediately consult a doctor because the symptoms of shock at first and more severe brain traumas (for instance, cerebral contusion or intracranial hemorrhage) may be identical. Only a doctor can determine what specific trauma you have received. It is possible that you may need an x-ray examination (picture of the cranial bones) in order to exclude a skull fracture.
Patients with concussion must comply with bed rest for at least several days. At this time, it’s not allowed to read, listen to music and even watch TV. Follow the entire doctor’s instructions, to drink painkillers sedatives drugs and medications that improve brain function. When a concussion is treated properly, the general condition of the patient usually quickly returns to normal one during the first or at least the second week after trauma.
You should remember that a person, who has had even a slight concussion, can develop post-traumatic neurosis, or other more serious complications, such as epilepsy. Therefore, some time after recovery, it may be necessary to undergo electroencephalography and visit the neurologist.
The treatment of more serious head traumas is depending on their severity. In urgent cases, there may be needed a help of neurosurgeons.
